Pubs reopening June 29th

I'd say the last time that I had a pint in FZs was around when Nirvana's "You Know You're Right" and Foo Fighters' "One By One" came out - so about 2002/2003-ish.

Christ.

Now I feel old.

It's mellowed out a lot, all the old heads are mostly gone bar the occasional appearance around a bank holiday. Very young crowd in there now.

I have nothing but good things to say about the place, it's just not my thing anymore. I like a pub where I can sit at a table in the corner on my own. 99% of the tables in Fredz are in the smoking room and I don't smoke.

I've an awful lot to be thankful to Fredz and Tom for and I hope it never goes away. They're pouring the new Original 7 Lyalls Stout now actually so I must call in for a pint.

Lyall's is named after former Fran Well brewer Peter Lyall who tragically passed away in a house fire last year. Lovely gesture to name a stout after him.

I can't recall seeing Buckfast in FZs - well... not for sale behind the bar anyway.

Admittedly, the last time that I was in there was definitely over 20 years ago but I don't remember Bucky being served at any point in the place's 90s/00s heyday.

I do remember that Tom had a Jaegermesiter machine in the style of a V8 engine. And the brief time where you got your drink in a test tube.

Jesus, I fell victim to that yoke. Woke up with a several missing hours and a pocket full of cracked, plastic test tubes.

Good times...

Tequila Jack's are doing s Super Bowel party.

I'm not sure how that works with licencing, as even if they got a 2:30am extension the game could still go on well past that.

He's a very nice man, Sean McCarthy

Will they have some faux ICE agents chasing after all the Mexicans in the bar for the craic?

Woody Harrelson was in Kanturk over the weekend and went to some pub.

They didn't know who he was so nobody went up and got a photo with him.

So the pub have just posted a CCTV still on social media of him having a pint.

That's got to be against GDPR rules, but is also the most Irish thing ever. "Famous person comes to town" 🤣
