Sincere condolences to the Murphy family, he is related through marriage of one of his kids to one of my siblings.Particularly sad news today.
Mick "The Butch" Murphy had died. I'd say a lot of ye are familiar with the man even if ye didn't know him. A career musician, he'd have been a staple in the likes of Charlie's, the Corner House, and more recently the Gables, which is where I had the privilege of getting to know him.
He became a great friend and was on our quiz team with my wife and another friend of ours.
Sincere condolences to the Murphy family, he is related through marriage to one of my siblings.
My dad shared the news, been down about it all day.
A fantastic man and musician and had more than a few stories to tell, absolutely fascinating and engaging.
May he RIP
Couldn’t agree more and I am lucky, what he doesn’t know about music isn’t worth knowing about.A true Cork legend, you're so lucky to be related to him.
There is already a photo of him up behind the bar in the Gables.
Lots of people come and go, but Mick leaves a space that can't be filled. A true one off.

I think he was in stocktons wings too?
Must check out the gables sometime
When my mum passed away last year, he didn’t go on about grief etc in the pub after the funeral but was regaling tales of Rory Gallagher et al. A welcome distraction
Well said MOE, a true one off

Bad times. Another man I served pints to and drank pints with.
Mick The Hat AKA Mick The Butcher. Sound out.
I remember the first time I ever met him.
Myself and herself were sitting at a table in the Gables and she suddenly goes "jesus Christ, don't look now... but Ian Bailey is sitting at the bar"
I told Val after and he said it to Mick, and he loved it![]()
