James Joyce's masterpiece is definitely Ulysses because it accurately captures the ideal state of living of having breakfast, doing the minimal amount at work, going for a walk, a wank, a few scoops at various points, a coffee, biscuits, library, bitta writing, more booze scattered throughout, some Irish republicanism, standing up for minorities, bit of horse racing, to the whorehouse, hallucinating, then meeting up with your Da so he can give you advice. The marriage bit was the only bum note, despite all the "yes I said yes I will yes" gurlies.
