Pubs reopening June 29th

Great to see a new business open in the heart of Cork's thriving pub and late night quarter.

No VAT reduction? No problem for these guys.

Entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Cork.

They're right next to a few of Bennys finest heritage pubs, so they'll be able to observe how the master does it and learn from there.

Fair play to them having a punt at a new business venture, really hope it works out for them.

Disappointed that they don’t serve porter but I wish them the best of luck regardless.

Is it a good Bar Ennisy? I must check it out some night

It's a nice bar but it has so much undelivered potential. He's a lovely guy but he's trying to manage it while juggling every other element of owning a pub, and he finds it very hard to hold onto decent staff for some reason. He'd be doing 70 hours a week behind the bar in there himself, on top of being in the next morning for kegs, doing the wages, roster etc.

For context, two of his best staff both left for The Old Bear, and another of his best is leaving soon on another controversial transfer to a nearby rival.

If he could find a good bar manager, the place would make an absolute killing.

He'll do very well over Christmas in terms of parties and the likes, but if you don't have the staff then what good is having people in if you can't serve them. His wife has had to jump in a few nights recently what with all the staff moving around.

His best full time girl moved to Valencia for a job, you can't begrudge her that.

Let's just say that as someone who has managed bars and is a bit of a geek when it comes to watching how bars work, I reckon I'd transform that place if given the opportunity. My bar days are long gone though.

I saw a good one yesterday. I was in a certain gastropub just killing an hour or two before a train, and there was a lad skulling pints of Heineken.

He asked the barman if he had peanuts or crisps and he said no, but we'd have chips.

He said "no sorry I don't have enough money".

Barman took sympathy and said "don't sorry about that boy, these are on me", and got him a portion of chips on the house.

Yer man had the chips, and then another 3 pints. 🤣🤣🤣
