Only our 3rd president in my living memory and served us well.

Was genuinely struggling to think of a suitable replacement, though I suspect he's happy enough with CC.

I remember Devalera as President, and Dana winning Eurovision...or was it the other way round ?

Anyway, I'm expecting Putin's puppet to be an utter embarrassment for the country, so she'll either match expectations or I'll be pleasantly surprised. That's the value of low expectations I suppose.

Well read, well spoken and did a fair amount for the Arts and Culture in our Country.

He always came across as genuine and conscientious.

I think Catherine Connolly will be along similar lines. Has a strong social conscience, is very well read, well educated, and seems a very well rounded person. I think she has the potential to be an even better President than Miggledy (who I didn't initially think would be good at it but he exceeded my expectations) tbh.

As much as I am no fan of the Burkes, I can't get passed Catherine Connellys hypocrisy and lies in reference to the Elijah Burke debacle. Very poor handling tbh. Imo.

Today is his last day in office. Over 70% of respondents to this poll have positive opinions of his time in office.

I think history will record his service both as President and as a TD and Senator very positively.

I think all Presidents have served us well but I guess short of being caught with a hooker in the Áras, it would be difficult to f**k up the gig. Be nice and polite to visitors, look solemn at funerals of Popes, Presidents, etc and tip up at the Young scientist and big sporting occasions and you'll be fine!

I totally agree. I think Connolly will speak out on certain issues but it’s a hard job to do badly especially if you’ve received a mandate from the electorate. The campaign is arguably harder than the job.
