Go and ask them?CSO? Revenue? Dept of Trade and foreign investment? FDI Ireland? Dept of Finance?
Ireland earned more from exports than Italy, a G7 country of 60m.BandonY: FDI is great, but using it's exports to say we export more than Italy is disingenuous.
Lads are super sensitive about the Irish economy(what about cheese!). It is wonderful and remarkable that the Irish economy has made a complete u turn of the last three decades. However, if you do not factor foreign companies avoiding tax and the input of EU development funds you are only kidding yourself.
No historical big natural resources either like coal and iron ore etc. that other countries had.I remember hearing some economist comparing Ireland today to the city states of Italy in the past. They used their position and their ability to trade to their advantage. We have no tradition of large industry like for example Daimler, or BP, or Total, etc., as we were up until 1922 a plantation colony of an imperial power for all intents and purposes.
By playing to our strengths and exploiting our advantages we have developed to become a successful country.
So it is only natural that others will attempt to qualify our ongoing success.
It’s human nature.
No historical big natural resources either like coal and iron ore etc. that other countries had.
People made this place after many had to leave and Ireland faced up to reality and looked to the future while the U.K. declines as it looks to the past.
Sort out the domestic economy and issues in housing and health etc and it can get right up there.
Yes, everything is great except the things that aren't.Everything's great except for the bottom rung of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs (ie, the bare essentials)
