Power Cuts on the way.

Thanks to the green we have power cuts on the way, no motorway to limerick no Galway bypass Dublins metro delayed
Give then 10 years in power and we will be back to the horse and cart.

Yup. Only a matter of time with The Irish Greens in power under Ryan :-(

I heard Ryan being interviewed on the radio this morning and to be fair while he batted the questions on Mica, and Covid Bonus questions off quite well but when asked if there was a Plan B regarding the possibility of Power Cuts he floundered badly. And when pointed out that Datacentres currently ;-) consume 11% and are heading to consume 25+% of our national capacity on electricity, never mind water storage he waffled on about how we must have data centres because without them there'd be no internet and no mobile phones.

Eh hello Eamon - without electricity there'll be neither of those things and none of a hell of a lot more either!

We as a country have more than our fair share of Datacentres already. Ireland doesn't need more datacentres taking huge amounts of our electricity supply capacity, and millions of litres of water.

The Social Democrats are dead right to look for a moratorium on any more datacentres for this country.

To have remote working and employment etc we have to have more data centres as well as having up to 70% of our power generated by renewables by about 10 years time.

Simply saying "No more Data Centres" is not even sustainable for lots of reasons.

According to Ryan's interview this morning Dublin alone has the highest concentration of datacentres in the entire EU.

There are 7M people on this island, 5M in this jurisdiction, why on earth do we, who are at the mercy of a very extended power supply line - interlink from France won't be operational until 2026 according to Ryan - have to provide datacentres for others?

The number of data centres is only going to increase, they love our climate. I'm not sure how beneficial the things are to our economy, they're very low labour intensive, and where does the output go?

We are also the "others" and Data centres should be located away from urban areas to more rural areas and nearer renewables.

2 existing gas power stations will have to take up the slack until 2026.

THe 2 existing power stations (one in Cork and one in Dublin) will HOPEFULLY be able to accomodate things until 2026. There is no slack. We are up almost at the limit as it is. It didn't help that one of the Gas power stations was down for maintenance and the other got damaged.

This country is already fully served with sufficient datacentres for our own use afaik.
