Power Cuts on the way.

THe 2 existing power stations (one in Cork and one in Dublin) will HOPEFULLY be able to accomodate things until 2026. There is no slack. We are up almost at the limit as it is. It didn't help that one of the Gas power stations was down for maintenance and the other got damaged.

This country is already fully served with sufficient data centres for our own use afaik.

No.

We have huge existing I.T., Pharma and med tech companies and public services as well as banking who require data centres as the digital economy expands.

During the past 18 months with people working from home they are essential infrastructure.

Saying "No more data storage here" is just irresponsible sloganeering.

ESB Networks etc and private companies will have to invest in power and renewables and people will object as usual as they want to stay in the dark.

Yes we have huge existing IT and tech companies but only a fraction of those in other EU countries. We've an island population of 7M. Are you seriously trying to suggest that all of the datacentres here are for use on this island only

We have more than enough milk for our own use as well “afaik.”
And enough iPhones for our own use “afaik.”

We should burn down all the excess creameries like Glenisk and tell Apple to fuck off.

You bum.

:lol!:

Well if it means that we are going to have to endure power cuts here so that people beyond our shores have our surplus milk and iphones I hope you'll be happy becuase it won't last very long without electricity.

Just run the power stations if we have to,
Ryan is deluded. All well and good wanting to tackle climate change but it has to be done with some sense of pragmatism for the Ireland that exists today.
No one calls Norway anti-environment and they are exploring and drilling and sucking oil and gas out of the ground all the time. We should do the same.

Climate change is a planetary process - the temperatures will rise and tweaking around with cycle lanes and VRT and the rest of his pie-in-the-sky shite simply will not work.

There are 1800 EV chargers in Ireland and the vast majority of them are in Dublin.

So if you live in Ballymacoda where is the incentive for you to buy an EV?

He's deluded. But good cannon fodder for FF/FG.

Apparently the future data centres require a lot less power.

Yes, in the same way big trucks have more efficient engines than they used have. Still burning a lot of fuel though.

I think Ryan said the data centres are becoming more efficient and would become 10% more efficient than they currently are.

Data centres have the capacity to power heating systems in homes if the waste heat from them can be harnessed correctly. A bit of planning (stumbling block!) and the heat emitted from these can be used in a combined heat and power plant to either recycle the energy wasted from the centres themselves or to district heating in any new build houses close by.

Are all our huge I.T. and Pharma Companies for domestic use only?

We have the perfect climate for Data centres with renewables and not too hot just like Denmark and we have undersea data cables etc.

The Government will have to invest in new capacity instead of restricting economic growth as well as being climate responsible.

Eamonn Ryan cannot be holding a press conference in the dark while lecturing us about the climate. Just invest and do what it takes.
