Post Match Discussion

I watched the Barca - Udinese game last night. Barca were wonderful to watch going forward but they will have problems defending this season. I don't think on last night's display that they'll win the CL but maybe it was just a bad night at the office for the defence.

Going forward though they were amazing. The kid Messi looks like a real find and it's the first time I saw four men playing in the hole. Barca seemed to play 4-2-4 last night with Eto'o playing as deep as Ronaldinho, Deco and Messi. For anyone that saw it, Ronaldinho's goal was a cracker as was Deco's. Once Larsson came on I switched over to Man U. Very exciting final 20 mins.

being stuck in 4 channel land i was stuck with united benifica, but to my surprise it was a very entertaining attacking game. united were very sloppy in position and would have been punished by a better team. smith was woeful positionally and gave away a lot of ball but flew into a few tackles. the new right back did well but the star of the show was richardson, very raw, but could be the new ashley cole. van nistelroy looked quite sharp and got a typical goal. giggs was marked out of it and for a long time it looked like ronaldo would have to win the game by himself. benfica for their part were excellent and deserved a draw at least. ginsoaks reaction to the goal was just pure relief, must have brought back memories of mark robbins. he looked like he didn't enjoy it one bit.

John O'Shea set an excellent screen for van Nistelrooy's goal. I've often wondered why football teams don't do that more often from corners and free kicks.
