Popular holiday destinations you think are shit

I always turned my nose up at going to Málaga.

I (wrongly) assumed that it was in the same bracket is Torremolinos*, Benalmádena etc. i.e Brits and Irish abroad but at home - Irish bars, English bars, vacuum-packed pudding and rashers, GAA jerseys as evening attire.

I went to Granada two years ago to fulfill a lifelong dream of mine. We had to fly in and out of Málaga so we tacked on 3 nights in the city after finishing up our visit to Granada.

I was 100% wrong about the place. Sure, it has it's Irish bars yadda yadda yadda but Málaga is a city of art, culture, exceptional food and wine options and some of the nicest people you could meet. For me, it ranks higher than Barcelona and Valencia. On par with Seville. But not quite as nice as Granada.

I've visited Málaga again twice since that first trip. I've always planned on retiring to France but Andalucia has turned my head.

*I took a spin to Torremolinos on my last trip to Málaga - in case my assumptions about that place were wrong too.

They were not. It is a shithole.
🙂👍
Spot on about Málaga.
It's a great city. Ok there are too many air b&bs now but the city has it's Spanish charm unlike the Costa. Loads of places where the staff don't speak English and the food is for locals like me 😂. The city centre can be full of tourists but they have to go with the flow.
Depends on where you go prices wise though. However, I have it well sussed at this stage.
Granada is a wonderful city. I love it.
Sevilla is a beautiful city with cracking, beautiful girls but the Sevillanos l tend to be up their own arses about the place unlike Málaga or Granada.
Try Cádiz the next time you're here Crispy.
An absolutely brilliant city with great atmosphere and incredibly funny people.
