Pope Francis 😞

Hamas & Hezbollah send condolences to Catholic faithful over death of Pope Francis.

Following the death of Pope Francis, both Hamas and Hezbollah issued statements mourning his passing and praising his legacy. Hamas described Pope Francis as a “prominent global religious figure” who firmly opposed the war in Gaza and consistently supported the rights of the Palestinian people. They highlighted his calls for a ceasefire, his condemnation of the violence, and his recognition of the Palestinian state.

Yet no mention of his wish that all those kidnapped should be released?

Kinda looks like a thrupple.
Its a bit odd to say the least

Surprised at Mary McAleese piece in the IT today, she has a fair crack at the pope for being all style and no substance, lots of soundbites and talk for the journos but no actual change enacted. I have no idea to be honest, the churches problems are well known and documented but Id say it is an impossible ship to turn at the same time

Fair play to her given the timing of the piece, I'd say she will face a fair backlash given her profile

She is more religious than most and rather than leaving the church she tried to change it from within, using the processes and procedures within the church to further the change process.

However she quickly realised that the church uses red tape and centuries old dogma to stifle her case, in much the same way Louise O’Keeffe was stifled when she sought justice.

She is fighting her case and that of her son and fair play to her.

Yeah, Ive read her opinion pieces every now and again - she caught my eye around the time of our referendum on gay marriage because she seems to be forthright and honest about how she's sees the disconnect between the church and where life has gone to. She was also quite vocal a few years ago when the church had some kind of vote on whether to allow women play a meaningful role.

I find people like McAleese fascinating in that she is a highly intelligent person who operated a successful career at the bar and has held the highest office in the country, yet will continue with a religion despite it shunning her son, and keeping the door firmly shut on women. Surely this is the point that you throw in the towel and let the old farts playing dress up to their empty cabal?

Yeah good post. The fact that she went as for as achieving a doctorate in Canon law and had to defend her thesis (in italian) is impressive.

Also her daughter was rowing with Trinity back when she was president and the novice 8 used to pop up to the Aras for tea and toast after training which I think is pretty fuckin cool.

MLMD posted her condolence she said Pope Francis had great compassion for the people of Gaza, She didnt bother
mentioning the people of Ukraine or other people suffering in other wars,

That is impressive.. wow!

Anyway, after watching Conclave my mind is scripting a new Dan Brown type novel with all sorts of shady characters and shenanigans going on right now.. glimpses of the Columbian lad with suspicious rumblings under his cassock, the early German favourite disappeared by the Irish fella who is a sleeper planted 20 years ago by John Paul after a quiet word under the cross in the Phoenix Park, the English fella sitting on his own in the cloister, the Yank with the funny bonce and complexion positioning himself as king pin in the clandestine deals being cut behind the scenes, the African lad with the swollen gut, enormous smile and massive gold cardinal cross, and then theres the small svelte Italian lad who is always accompanied by a string of hot nuns

6 nail biting votes later we finally have white smoke, Pope Silvio Burlesconi (the only one ever not to take a papal name) emerges from his cryonic chamber having openly bought the vote, gyrating to his adoring crowd

Had to laugh at a news article Kerry massgoers "in shock", an elderly man in his 80s with health problems dying is hardly a great surprise.
