Grim times for Opinion Line Crew. Whilst the man himself is still out foreign, supping away at the San Miguel, there were sombre faces and a funeral-like atmosphere up on the hill. Not helped by those on the early morning show quaffing bubbly to toast growing listenership figures .

Nurofen Man is bossing the talk show slot. Cork can only take so much of Mick and Tommy speaking of this wonderous, magical money tree that "de gubbermint" must avail to solve all our problems!!

These listnership figures are a joke.... the radio equivalent of the primary school sports where everyone gets a medal.

Essentially just polling data. MRBI or Red C interview 1,000 people or so from around the country and ask them what radio they listened to yesterday and over past week.
Important for stations though. The big media buyers use the data to decide where to put the national advertising campaign ads for the big advertisers - banks, mobile phone companies, consumer goods, etc. and how much to pay for them.


Radio stations will always try and make the best of them and portray themselves as delighted no matter what happens.
Hopefully one or two shows on the schedule do well and they can make a song and dance about that - not the case for Opinion Line this time. Peej bocht!!
The media buyers just look at the data and make their calls based on that.
