Had a flick through the online edition of the current and last issue of The Phoenix.

The full page adverts are a clear indication what sort of people were their remaining audience;

• High-end property sales in Dublin City Centre,
• Safety deposit boxes
• Investments in gold bullion
• OTC erectile dysfunction tablets
• Yachts
• and eh... Nova FM.

It's almost like something from Viz - but not self-aware.

It's stance on Russia-Ukraine war would have made Clare Daly and Mick Wallace blush. Used to be scourge of all politicians and reported decent inside gossip from Leinster house and elsewhere but in recent times was primarily used to spout Pro Russia, anti-Nato message re Ukraine war.
Ran with a "scoop" last year about two British colonels captured in Ukraine that turned out to be a false news story from Russian media outlet in Norway that was discredited immediately - their use of poor AI generated images only one of the tell-tale signs.

"When you're in town on your half-day next Wednesday - pop into Eason's and pick up my magazines just give them my name. Yes, you will have to talk to them. No, you can't text them.

When mine were teens and I was dropping them to a friends house, "off you go and knock on the door to see if they are home". They'd look at me like I had 2 heads and proceeded to text their pal that they were outside.

There was a lot to be said for the ritual of reading a magazine when you went for a dump.

The world has changed. Not necessarily for the better.

One of my favourite Phoenix covers used this photo. Iris Robinson had been caught playing away with an 18 year old. The first bubble had Peter starting to utter the famous words "Ulster says ..." to which she interjects "yes, yes, OMG, YES!"
