I haven't read The Phoenix in about 15 years. Not since my uncle died. He used to buy The Phoenix, Private Eye, Boxing Illustrated, World Soccer and Four Four Two religiously so they were always in the house. He had some standing-order thing with Eason's and I used to collect them the odd time - they'd be wrapped in that blue/green stripy paper.
Imagine explaining this to a teenager now?
"When you're in town on your half-day next Wednesday - pop into Eason's and pick up my magazines just give them my name. Yes, you will have to talk to them. No, you can't text them.
What don't you understand? Eason's is a shop in town that now mainly sells plastic shit and bad greetings cards.
Yeah, no - a magazine is a thing where they print stuff that happened last month on a dead tree and then I pay €7 for it so that may be read mainly in the jacks at home or in the jacks on a train."
