Definitely , used to read a paper daily and all the Sundays plus books. Now it's just head in the phone. Still reading loads of news though and quickest to get any source you want so wonder if there is a trade off in knowledge. Maybe more factual info over creative sources that get the brain working in books.

Whenever I pick up an Irish broadsheet or tabloid these days, it's surprising how little content, quality and quantity-wise, they have. De Paper and IT curate to a particular audience and are lightweight and vacuous, a shadow of their past selves.

That wasn't the issue I had, for clarity. The issue I had was wetter Way more legs.

Exactly the same for me. I'd read the Sunday Papers from cover to cover. The ould pair used to get the Sunday Trib and the Sunday Times, and the lot of us would spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon passing the various sections around when we were finished with them. I couldn't read an entire front page at this stage, I'd say.

As a follow on to this, the Cal Newport podcast has a good episode on this recently. He goes through a potential cognitive training regime to combat the brain rot and declining cognition that we're undergoing.

I used to read The IT a lot back in the 1980s. Great news articles, comment and sport
Ed Van Esbeck Rugby.
Paddy Downey GAA.
Peter Byrne Soccer.
The Saturday issue was great as it included a weekend supplement which you could spend the following week reading.
I used to get The Examiner on weekdays but never bothered much with The Echo.

Thought the Saturday Supplement in the Examiner, fairly sure it was the first one in Irish newspaper world, was brilliant. I suppose it helped that I was in the house-buying phase of my life back then but I don't think it's ever been matched by Irish newspapers. That said I don't think I've bought an Irish newspaper in the bones of 20 years.
