I was trying to get a magazine recently and ended up having to call a place in Waterford for it.

The only place in town to buy a magazine now is Easons, and their magazine section is absolute shite

Is there still a print edition of Hot Press?

For some reason I thought that it had been absorbed by The Ticket in the Oirish Toimez. Or maybe they just have the same reviewers.

Mundial, for example, is a brilliant football magazine. Long-read articles by decent writers. 4 print issues a year.

The only place in Cork which stocked it regularly was Kelleher's on North Main Street and that's gone now.

Streaming is grand but somethings definitely been lost. Getting Directors cuts etc is a right pain in the hole now. Lot to be said for a physical copy of a film.

Pity that Phoenix is going out of business - used get it very regularly, the buddy had a subscription, but I confess I haven't actually bought one in over a year.

I think I'm right in saying that at one stage we Irish were the biggest consumers of newspapers per capita than anywhere else in the world, certainly one of the highest, but as has been said elsewhere, print media is on the way out.

I was reading an article (online) about the migration of millennials back to physical media (from streaming to 4K Blu Ray discs).

Apparently it's in line with the rise of the "Film Bro".

And then blood poured from my ears.

I still buy the odd Blu Ray but, like my vinyl record purchases, it's usually something that I have seen/heard previously and enjoyed so much that I am willing to pay for and allow it to take up space in my house. Years ago, I'd buy a VHS/DVD on spec with the hope that a film was good.
