Paul Scholes

They said he is the only player who can play like Xavi and Inniesta.

I say they are the only players who can play like Paul Scholes.

Scholes was doing it long before both of them.

"Paul Scholes is a role model. For me – and I really mean this – he's the best central midfielder I've seen in the last 15, 20 years. I've spoken to Xabi Alonso about him. He's spectacular, he has it all: the last pass, goals, he's strong, he doesn't lose the ball, vision. If he'd been Spanish he might have been rated more highly. Players love him."
Xavi Hernández,

"Fans in Spain rate him very highly and I admire him a huge amount." [23]
Xabi Alonso,

"There is no doubt for me that Paul Scholes is still in a class of his own. He’s almost untouchable in what he does. I never tire of watching him play. You rarely come across the complete footballer, but Scholes is as close to it as you can get. One of my regrets is that the opportunity to play alongside him never presented itself during my career."
Zinedine Zidane,

"My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder. Scholes is undoubtedly the greatest midfielder of his generation.
"Zinedine Zidane,

"I tell anyone who asks me – Scholes is the best English player."
Laurent Blanc,

“I’m star-struck when I see Paul Scholes because you never see him. On the pitch you can’t catch him. Off the pitch he disappears.”
Luis Figo

“At La Masia (Barcelona’s Academy) his name was mentioned a lot. He’s a teacher.”
Lionel Messi

“Out of everyone at Manchester United, I would pick out Scholes – he is the best midfielder of his generation. I would have loved to have played alongside him.”
Pep Guardiola

“Scholes is the best i’ve played with and he helped me a lot when I was young. He’s amazing.” [38]
Cristiano Ronaldo

“One of the best players I've ever seen in my life! Spectacular on training! Playing with him was a joy!.”
Gerard Pique

It's his tackling that has let him down as becoming one of the all time greats. His previous would make Roy Keane wince.

Has been a fantastic player throughout his career, one of the best in the history of the premiership, dislike the way a lot of his bad tackling is laughed off by fans and the media though, he can be a very dangerous tackler at times but instead we hear the laughs of "oh haha tackling was never Scholesy's strongest attribute haha" while some poor fucker is writhing around on the ground. Hes been pretty good since coming back again, has been one of the best players on the pitch on several occasions. No way he is nor ever was on the same level as Xavi and Iniesta are now, those two plus Messi are just levels above everyone else. Also Zidane seems to have quite a few "toughest opponent","best player in the world" etc. Has said the same about a few other players, anyway yeah....Paul Scholes....fantastic player....Karma could come calling soon in the tackling department though.

for a lad so bad and dangerous at tackling how many players has he seriously injured or finished careers over the years? serious question cos I don't ever recall him maiming someone, sure there have been plenty of rash & late tackles but very few intentionally sinister tackles that I can recall anyway?
