Parents of the year

This is odd. I know of a family who are similarly loaded who have a kid that is struggling financially. I get it about teaching kids the value of money, responsibility and earning their own way but at the same time it does seem almost cruel in a way. This family have a holiday home in france but their youngest can’t get a mortgage despite being a good kid and having an ok job.

That's fucking weird.
I'd give my "kids" everything I own.
BTW they're all gainfully employed, making their own way in the world.

But if they needed it I'd give them my life.

*pontificating, soyboy message ends*

Yeah, there's a difference between helping out your kids and giving them so much money that they don't have to find their own strengths.

My own Dad gave me my inheritance money about 7 years ago when i was getting married. Then he had a change of heart and asked for it back. Been renting ever since .

Not complaining as it’s his money, he can do what he wants with it but at the same time i would have put it towards a house just before things went crazy with house prices.

Then for years he’ed be giving me a hard time about how i was wasting money renting.

Oh well.

Has it strained your relationship with him?

That's a fucking terror.
Either give stuff willingly with no strings attached, or don't do it at all

Not really to be honest, he is quite old and i bite my tongue on a lot of things , like that particular situation, i just smile and get on with it.

I try to earn my own way and don’t live excessively, but that money would have made a huge positive impact to my own family whereas it’s just been sitting in his own account for the last few years doing nothing.

The Government have been cracking down on mortgages helped by the Bank Of Mum & Dad
