Open University Degree

Anyone here ever done one or can offer advice? Seriously thinking about doing one. Looking online it costs around 4k for 60 credits. (360 credits for full degree). Im too old to be going to normal in house University so am thinking about doing this.

The people who are going to scream "Its fuckin stupid. Not real college. Blah blah blah". Feel free to get it out of your system but im just looking for any advice good or bad espeicially fron anyone who has done a course with them.

It depends on what you study HS, assuming you’re looking to improve your employment prospects (but of course, this could be a totally wrong assumption).

If I were looking to improve my employment opportunities, I’d just do a short course on PowerBi and another on Project, and then possibly one in P6.

Apologies, I just realised I didn’t qualify to answer as I haven’t done a OU course, so just ignore if the above is off point.

Looking to add on to and improve what i am doing right now to hopefully open more doors. I would be around 55 years old if and when i would complete the degree. My life is ass backwards like this. Wish i had discovered my love career wise at 18 and not mid 40s. But it is what it is.

not sure what you want to study but there are a load of online/hybrid courses for €600, govt subsidises them in skills deficient areas

never did an OU course but did a 3 year MSC from UCD remotely. i can't understate how difficult it was managing life and study but ultimately it was worth it for a change in career.

also helped with self confidence just getting the brain working but it eats time while youre in it

Well said…made my share of mistakes along the way.

Not knowing where your background is, let me explain.

Am currently in a high paying job but not sure how long it will last. And at 60, even tho’ my job is in demand, I think it may be difficult to find another job.

Previous employers might take me back, but short courses as referenced in previous post would greatly increase my chances.

But take that with a grain of salt if you’re. Say, a chef or nurse, etc. my background is engineering, construction

I did a couple of modules or whatever they are called a few years ago. I found it very good, and you get a tutor assigned to you. Mine was very good and supportive. I'd say you could get cheaper options, but would recommend.
