Texas wants to be some kind of unregulated libertarian paradise.
Right now in paradise, as the electric companies start to repair the grid and reattach people to it, they have decided to pass on these costs to their customers because “capitalism”, why not?, and fuck you. So people have been getting monthly electric bills for $5,000 to $12,000, because so few customers have had their service restored so far.
This has caused some heat for these companies (no pun intended). To show that they are not evil, the companies have volunteered to put these customers on long term payment plans of up to ten years. God bless America.
(Note, this sort of thing wouldn’t happen if the companies were regulated).
