Never remember any ad over Union Chandlers. Think they moved to Penrose Quay for a while (around the same time as the "dogs home" moved) but I take it they've closed years ago.

They used to have a charge for the cloakroom which had an extra charge for umbrellasTo the right of the hotel entrance was called the Buttery, a bar with a small dance floor if memory serves me, early 80s...think it used close at normal bar times...u would then move on to next door,the other part of complex which had a bigger nightclub/dance hall...no guarantee you'd get in though even though same bouncers had left you into the Buttery earlier.
Old Coughlan himself or his wife would usually be at kiosk inside door taking money...almost impossible to get in free even though 1 or 2 of the bouncers were sound
