Official VAR thread

Crooked decision making at AFCON final. No VAR for Senegal goal a few minutes earlier. Senegal after walking from the pitch and they are right
They couldn't go to VAR as the referee had already blown the whistle for the foul. Totally the referree's fault, as he blew the whistle too quickly.

Not buying it. He's clearly onside from the frame above when the ball is played.

As mentioned, that's a frame arbitrarily chosen by the TV companies. Not the frame used by VAR.

It's not even close.

By any measure it clearly is a close decision.

They're making this shit up as they go along.

They're not. There's nothing in that decision which hasn't been established practice for 4 seasons.

Fuck off VAR.

This I can get on board with, generally.

Why didn't they use the one used by the TV company's?

A better question is why don't the TV companies use the frame which the VAR selects. They have access to it & the VAR aims to be more precise on selecting the right frame.

He looks clearly onside in it. If the benefit is to be given to the attacker, surely that's the frame they should be using?

No.

The giving of benefit of the doubt to the attacker comes from the 5cm tolerance threshold AFTER the lines have been drawn.

Selecting, on purpose, an earlier frame (prior to the pass being made) makes no sense at all.
