Official Pro Wrestling Thread

No idea tbh but there's been theory of it being a work and telling Cena go fuck himself and maintaining the voice of the voiceless image to it being a case of it dawning on him he's mid 40s injury prone etc so taking the cash on the table.

If Punk doesn't want to go but the powers that be are pressuring him it could be a case of fans wake up to the news Punk has quit.

Really have no idea tbh but worth keeping an eye on.
lol hard to keep the art of kayfabe going in the instant information age.

i have one who’s still on santa levels of believing it all and two who know the bumps are real but are still unsure about the storylines.

me: why else would damien priest slam mcIntyre into a windscreen?!

children: 🤔🤝🏻

I cant watch the new shit at all anymore. Maybe im just an old grumpy bastard wearing the rose tinted glasses but the old stuff from the 80s and 90s up to when around the Attitude era ended is when i mentally checked out. The improv non scripted shoot talks from the wrestlers and the amazing way they could make the matches tell a story with fairly simple moves. Now its all Olympic gymnastics.

Check out Ric Flair against Randy Savage at Wrestlmania 7 or Ric Flair v Terry Funk i quit match from 1989 on youtube. Now that was storytelling at its finest. Ill just chew on my Werthers Original now and stay grumpy.

no doubt! warrior was the first to grab my attention. macho man made me fall in love with it 💪🏻

yeah, some of the characters were better then but some of the wrestling was atrocious. lads just double axe handling each other, a few irish whips. power slam if lucky then 1,2,3.

way too many squash matches as well. at least now with nxt there’s something on the line rather than some jabroni falling foul of vince and being told move it or lose it.

the pg era wasn’t the best but they half seem to have learned their mistakes and let the violence run a bit now. lol, there’s some who came up through cena PG and were probably horrified when lesnar drew claret from orton, having never seen it before.

maven has a good “behind the wrestling” style page on youtube. checked out one a while back where he has foley rate the pain from
various weapons. foley is candid enough through it all but says he’s the luckiest fella ever tje actually still have all his faculties after the abuse he put himself through. he has an interesting take on the steel chair shots and specifically the one where the rock kept battering him while in cuffs.

I loved the way it was 95% Superstar v jobber matches back then though. So when 2 Superstars took each other on it meant something.

i’ll go to my grave saying that taker throwing foley from the top of the cage wasn’t the greatest thing that happened that night.

terry funk was literally choke slammed out of his sneakers 🙈🙈🙈

Punk getting serious stick for what looks line a match in Saudi against Cena.

Punk's rant on wrestlers taking the oil money is well remebered, if he goes through with it his haters have a king kong sized stick to whack him with. Anyone wrestler with half a brain would hammer him on it during a promo.
Drew Mcyntyre will have to be kept away from him promo wise if he goes. There's no way he doesn't mention that.

Yes, some of it was, but as Caney said, but they told stories in there.

And they FUCKING SOLD. Hogan, Macho, Hart, Flair et al always sold it like they were getting a hell of a beating before they made a miraculous fan inspired comeback.

And they told stories in there. I don't remember any high spots in the Austin Hart I quit match, but the match was a work of fucking art.

Some of the wrestler today are incredible athletes, but who are the biggest stars?

Punk, Rhodes, Mcintrye, Rollins, Roman. Not exactly the high flyers. It's still the wrestlers who tell the best stories. And yet most of the wrestlers just keep doing one high spot after another, never selling an opponents move.

bret hart has a particular disliking for anyone going through or over the ropes to the outside and being met with a safe landing 🙈🙈🙈
