Official Cork City FC/LOI thread!

I was at the United game in summer 1990. It finished 0-0. Spoke to Alex after the game and he was very pleasant despite being unhappy with United's display. Afaicr the game was part of the deal which took Brian Carey to Old Trafford.
Nope. Brian moved to United after the FAI cup replay defeat to Derry in 1989. I was at both games. Dave Barry was still playing GAA for the Cork footballers at the time and the talk was he was getting grief over playing for City. City also had Kevin Nugent playing up front who went on to have quite a decent career in England.

It was part of the deal but the game couldn't be played in 1989 due to United's other commitments. It wasn't overlooked and was played in August 1990.

🙂
I had that programme but like the others I had collected, it got lost when I moved to Málaga.
There was a brilliant article in it about the then recent sale of Flower Lodge to the GAA. It said about the AOH role in the sale, "May God forgive them".

Dave Barry was omitted from the Cork Football team for the AI in 1987. He played in 1988, 89 and 90.

Yeah but the GAA didn't like it one bit that he was playing 'soccer' with City.
👍
That's very true Greg.
They learnt their lesson though after excluding DB and putting Christy Ryan and Jimmy Kerrigan, both natural half-backs, in the forward line in 1987. Dave B was asked back in 1988.
On the day of the AI Final in 1987 Barry was playing for City at The Carlisle Grounds in Bray. His mind wandered a bit that day I'd imagine.

City v Derry 89 cup final. Travelled up with my aul fella, uncle and old brother. I was in first year at school and we were on a Nancy Spains sponsored bus. Stopped in Kildare on the way down. We ended up back in Cork at 4am. For the replay, we took the train. Happy days though.
