Newspapers - their origin and political allegiances

Newspapers are now generally irrelevant.

Their circulations are in continual decline as the 24 hour news channels and online news sources gradually put them out of business.

Tend to agree, newspaper(s) have less political clout, Twitter Twatter, and various Blogs not to mention FB have usurped there newspaper power base, not that I personally see much improvement to the quality of candidates, just more oppertunnity to bitch about them.

UK..This is as old as mud but...

The Times:
Read by the people who run the country.
Daily Mirror:
Read by the people who think they run the country.
Guardian:
Read by the people who think they ought to run the country.
Morning Star:
Read by the people who think the country ought to be run by another country.
Daily Mail:
Read by the wives of the people who own the country.
Financial Times:
Read by the people who own the country.
Daily Express:
Read by the people who think that the country ought to be run as it used to be.
Daily Telegraph:
Read by the people who think it still is.
The Sun:
Their readers don't care who runs the country as long as she has big tits.

Probably as old as the Yes, Prime Minister episode in the third post.

Very good.

O'Reilly Rag and Sunday O'Reilly Rag are FG and if FG are not likely to win a GE, then they'll happily go with the winner.

Irish Times is the nearest thing to a truly impartial paper we have.

The paper that won't tell you how to vote, the Examiner is FG to the core.

The red tops and English broadsheets follow their parent English paper's editorial line.

Almost entirely wrong ! Sunday Independent is outrageously pro FF and anti FG/LB/SF. Has been for years, since the Press closed down. Originally they would have been seen as pro FG but under Aengus Fanning's warped editorship they sold their soul to the FF devil. Irish Independent is not quite as bad but certainly not pro the current government.

I do agree that the IT is generally restrained in its journalism.

The Examiner & Echo has always been FF leaning, even though they won't come out and say it officially

You will never get over the fact that the Independent group of papers were viciously anti SF and anti Provo. And they are not O'Reilly owned for some time - Denis O'Brien is the main shareholder for some time.

Independent is pro FG ? You must be joking.

You are correct about the Examiner - FG to the core.

The Irish Times - probably the closest thing that we have to The Guardian. But that is a relatively recent development. Not long ago, All Ireland finals just merited a one paragraph report in an obscure column.

Brilliant ha ha

Tony O'Reilly was going for the same mobile phone licence that Denis O'Brien ended up getting.

Tony was furious and basically declared a jihad on FG.

The indo was FF until the crash and now they're just a bunch of cynical, smug bastards from Dublin 4 that will respond to whatever populist bullshit is currently flying.

I honestly don't know how there hasn't been a revolution.
