Would agree a sensible approach needs to be taken. One thing that always pisses me off about Ireland is the lack of forestry, and then most forestry we have are pine trees which are crap for wildlife. We have the lowest forestry cover in Europe and I do think that is something we need to tackle as well.

Also agree. Loads of shit mountain land used for poor grazing for sheep or mono dead forests of scots spruce. That land should be incentivised massively with grants etc to be rewilded and actual double or triple or more our native forestry in Ireland. If necessary it should be compulsory purchased and rewilded by the state.

We need to plant native broadleaf trees, not Sika Spruce monocultures, the former would be way better at helping contain wildfires as well as supporting nature.

The sheep farming sector are pushing for greater supports to keep then viable, they won’t go quietly.

Hold back on the greater supports and make it more value economically to rewild marginal land and theyll go for it in a heart beat.

They're great sponges too so help with drought and flooding.

Plus the carbon capture would nearly pay for itself in direct carbon credits.

And once they're up and running they are self managing with very little human intervention required

A simple and cost effective method - the Government to make it legal to purchase plug in solar panel systems as can be done in many other European countries. This would allow low cost solar access for many!

A good friend of mine works for non profit organisation in the west of Ireland that do exactly this.

They secure grants for land owners who agree to have native trees planted on land not being used for farming etc
