Incorrect. Dairy and beef consumption is steadily rising. You take away a producer then that gap is filled by a farmer in Brazil on freshly cleared rainforest.
Ireland is idealy suited to cattle, at least it was, funnily enough if theses summers continue we become more suited to grain production.

You posted in response to my saying Ireland doesn’t burn in a year or more as much fossil fuels as China and India do in a day.

Do you now accept that China (irrespective of manufacturing solar panels etc) does indeed burn gargantuan amounts of fossil fuels compared to Ireland?

Dairy and beef consumption needs to fall, whether or not the Amazon gets further destroyed for the sake of cattle does not depend on us pumping out dairy produce and I don't think the IFA can prove a correlation, but they don't have to because people will believe what they want to and what suits their pockets.

If you follow agri news you'll see that the sector is in a near permanent state of crisis, now it's fodder related, a few months ago it was the price of diesel, last Spring it was too much rain, now it's the lack of rain.

Veg growers here are being ruined by supermarkets selling their produce too cheaply, I was in Super Valu the other day and wanted to buy Irish apples, but none there were, it was a choice of either Brazilian or South African ones, yet our climate is ideally suited to growing apples.

I'm not farmer bashing btw, they were told to boost milk production and for those with a big enough operation it was a no brainer, albeit one that involved heavily investing in slatted sheds and state of the art milking parlours.
