Commercially it may have been in the BBC’s best interests to keep him but public service broadcasters have to maintain certain standards. They are paid out of the public purse after all. Ryan Tubridy found that out to his cost here, albeit I’d argue that what Tubridy did was mild in comparison.

Clarkson is like a lot of very successful people in that he has a massive ego. He thought he was untouchable. He wasn’t.

The director of television who pushed him out was given the chop shortly afterwards. It was definitely Amazons gain with TGT and CF both posting huge numbers on the streaming platform.

I work with a person from south east Asia. If I called them what Jeremy said about that man I’d be fired in the morning.

And he wasn’t even sacked for that.
