It doesn't really matter what someone promises you in terms of their estate if they don't will it to you. The exception to this is a doctrine called promissory estoppal, which basically means that if you did things or didn't do things that were to your detriment and were based on the promise that was made to you, then you might be able to force the promise to be fulfilled.

Tell them to get legal advice quickly.
