Alex Dunne wins the Formula 2 Bahrain Grand Prix today. The 19 year old really has a great future and hopefully an F1 career is on the cards. Great to hear 'Amhrán na bhFiann' played on the podium.
Red Bull should have given the place back. Then Max could've sat off Piastri at about 2, 2.5 seconds and made McLaren make the first stop. Red Bull I feel has lost its tactical sharpness in this regard, maybe the departure of Jonathan Wheatley has affected them as much as Newey leaving.5 second penalty won it for Piastri - curious where Max was supposed to go when he had the apex on the turn
That's it really. Piastri had a better start, was ahead, and Verstappen cut the corner. At the time I thought the 5 second penalty might be better for Verstappen, instead of being forced to give the place back. And that he might benefit from not being in the turbalent air. But that wasn't much of an issue at all in the race, unlike China.Red Bull should have given the place back. As to where Max should've gone in turns 1/2, it's difficult to know. Yes he may have had the apex for the second corner but the flow of the track at that point favours the car on the inside for turn 1, because there isn't much room width wise. Maybe Max should have conceded and sat behind Piastri and then could have sprung him after the safety car restart? I can't be 100% that this would have happened, but those 2 scenarios (giving the place back or conceding the corner) may have worked out better than what did happen. We won't know for sure.
