Minor Footballers 2026

Gabriel missed Meath and Derry due to a torn hamstring, it wasn't near as bad as Colm O'Riordan's hamstring pull though which kept him out for the entire championship. Keith Ricken said after the game that Gabriel played through the pain barrier when introduced. I believe Gabriel, Colm and Riley O'Donovan would have all started if they were fully fit. I saw Gabriel playing for LC Gaels v Croke Rovers for the 1st time a few years back and although they were defeated Gabriel stood out. He has a younger brother Samuel who is 14 and also a fine footballer.
Who would they have dropped to accommodate the 3 lads?

They were going with Colm, Gabriel and Rian in the full-back line from last year's U-16 win and then Conor Garvey replaced Colm and in this years championship Aaron O'Sullivan replaced Gabriel, as replacements Conor and Aaron did well although Conor struggled in the 1st half in the Munster Final and was replaced at h/t, then when he got injured last Sunday he was replaced by Gabriel. When Riley got injured he was replaced by Alex O'Herlihy and later he struggled with the conditions in the Munster final and was replaced by Donal Herlihy who held his place although was replaced by Alex last Sunday who really stood out in the 2nd half. Therefore IMO it would be Colm, Gabriel and Riley starting instead of Conor, Aaron and Donal. Hopefully we will see Conor start next year as he is underage for inter-county minor again in 2026.

You're spoofing there kid. Aaron O'Sullivan has been first choice all the way up. He was injured this year, that's how Gabriel got a start.

Not spoofing at all. Aaron wasn't selected on last years U-16 team that defeated Kerry in Ballyvourney in the AI Final. The 6 defenders were a full-back line of Gabriel Oronsaye, Donnacha Coleman and Rian McCormack and a half-back-line of Conor Downing, Colm O'Riordan and Peadar Kelly. I think 2 of this years backs Eanna Lynch was mid-field and Darragh O'Sullivan was half-forward. It wasn't Gabriel that Aaron got in for as Gabriel started throughout last year then got injured playing soccer in the winter but made it back for championship this year.
