Minor Footballers 2026

The GAA or should I say Munster GAA should be ashamed.
Very wrong to inflict such a hammering on young sportsmen.
I'm not sure how this can be prevented, tbh. There was a preliminary qualifying round which Waterford came through for the first time, meaning that this is their most successful minor team in years. It just so happens that there's a big gap between that and a v good Cork team. As long as Waterford are allowed to compete in the Munster championship and are good enough to make it through the qualifiers, there is always a chance this will happen.

Major questions marks again over why Clon players struggle with fitness and the basic demands of inter county..
It must be the chunky chips
Absolutely despicable insinuation to declare publicly regarding a child.

lt goes without saying that healthier diets are far more common in well to do areas like Clon than in poverty riddled areas like Togher and the Northside.

People here are generally far better informed and proactive about nutrition and long-term wellbeing and have the requisite incomes to source the highest quality food.

Fast food establishments are few and far between here in Clon, and those that do exist serve high quality and reasonably healthy food - the Chunky Chip being a good example - they are more renowned here in Clon for their fresh locally sourced fish and their freshly squeezed orange juice than they are for their chips.

No fear of that. Big difference between a hiding and a walloping. Cork could have beaten those Waterford youngsters by 30 points if they wanted.
It’s a valid point and it’s a regular occurrence particularly at underage level.

But short of creating a B competition at minor there isn’t much alternative and you won’t find many of the smaller counties pushing for that.

Isn't there a B competition at senior level........The Tailteann Cup,
They could name the cup The Tadg O Crowley Cup,

Totally different - the underage intercounty championship is far more truncated that senior I/C for obvious reasons - overlapping club season, exams, holidays.

It would have to be an either/or situation and there’s no way Waterford or any other county would happily bow out of the Munster championship in order to play in a B competition.

Fresh locally sourced fish deep fried in batter.
