Ronaldo has never been more popular than he is today, mate. Not by his actions on the pitch last night, but off it.

All the barbed criticism that he was too self-absorbed, egotistical and self-indulgent was rendered obsolete last night. Look at the media and public response today all around the world. The sceptics have revealed a new-found begrudging respect for the guy.

And he pays his taxes.

He has used the same loophole as Messi regarding taxes but hasn't been prosecuted by the Portuguese authorities.

Cristiano Ronaldo has ticked off the Portuguese tax authorities.

This week, Iberian paper Correo da Manha splashed their front page with the claim that Cristiano had avoided paying a large amount of tax related to his images rights.



According to Correo da Manha, Ronaldo has avoided paying tax for an image rights contract related to a deal with Banco Espiritu Santo during 2013 and 2014.

Under the terms of the deal signed in 2012, the Real Madrid striker trousered a cool €1.3 million from Banco Espiritu Santo in order to promote their brand.

Ronaldo was due to pay 25% of that fee to the Portuguese tax authorities, however Correo da Manha have revealed that the footballer sneakily circumvented the authorities through a web of companies run by his inner circle.

A company called Gestifute, owned by super-agent Jorge Mendes, was the party whom Banco Espiritu Santo legally did the deal with, and that company paid only 12.5% taxes in Ireland through another company called Multisports & Image Management.

Not really they have all been up to it. Both Barca and Madrid players. Messi and Masch are the only ones they decided to prosecute. The others all got off with fines or just given the option to repay what they owe.

Same reason they prosecuted Messi when he was being paid through a similar shell company for use of his image rights.

Messi just did the exact same thing as Ronnie.

Same as Casillas and Villa who forgot to pay their taxes. TSO,Rivaldo, Figo, Suker and pretty much every player who had image rights didn't pay their taxes for their image rights in Spain. They were however all allowed to reach a deal with the authorities.
