MERCURY REV | Cork gig

Yip there was 3 engineers on , but you have to remember that they were there since 11 in the morning setting up and some of the gear they had was totally out of this world ..was very impressed with the vocal treatment which was done by the FOH engineer using a macbook pro each song had it's own treatment which is a great way to work.
Overall a very impressive Danish crew who worked their asses to accommodate a band of that calibre.

well that explains it then :D fair play to them in fairness

Disappointing album. The versions of Gentry's songs on the album aren't particuarly striking. Hard to understand why Merc Rev would do this. I know they have used Band members and so on and see themselves in a particular US tradition and have done covers before. and of course its entirely up to them what they do, but it alll seems unnecessarily retro from a band that are well able to produce something more adventurous themselves. Why dont they leave the cover versions to others who aren't capable of coming up with anything new. Still, I admit that adventure isnt a prerequisite these days and audience expectations have been shaped in such a way as to make albums/projects like this acceptable. Gentry's original idea/album was good. Why didnt Merc Rev take the idea of writng about a particular place and culture and apply it to a different place and time? Great show in St Lukes last year though.
