I was at that gig too. JJ72 switched their guitars to cheapo copies and smashed them at the end of the set.

The Manics must've gotten word of it because Nicky Wire laid waste to the stageful of real Gibsons and Fenders at the end.

I remember by knees being fucked for a week after because pogoing on the cobblestoned "venue" floor.

Had a manics tshirt with the Cuban flag round then that I loved. Tried to get a replica a year or two ago but no joy.




Saw one on ebay for about 300 quid lol

Actually @El Guapo - if you can get your hands on a copy of Mitch Ikeda's book of Manics photos then you'll probably be able to find yourself in the crowd shot from that night.

Ikeda snapped a photo from behind Wire onstage and you can clearly make out a lot of people in the crowd.

I just cant be arsed travelling to Dublin for gigs anymore.

yeah, it's a total pain in the arse.... there are very very few bands on planet earth (most of them no longer together alas) that I'd consider enduring all the hassle of travelling to and from dublin for, not to mention it's enormous added expense for food, lodgings, etc

Yeah the last thing I went to in the Pale was Andrea Bocelli in the Point. (Er indoors birthday present), ud be lucky to escape for under a grand, train, hotel, grub, a few drinks. Thanks a lot Cork Non Event centre lol

The Manics have announced a second night in Dublin due to "unprecedented demand".

Slightly odd seeing as the general onsale of the first show isn't til tomorrow. More TicketBastard fuckery.

As much as I love them, I can't be drawn into going. One piece of advice though for anyone who is going - you'll be better off attending the first night. Bradfield has developed a misfortunate tendency of blowing out his voice easily and early in tours.

That being said - I saw them in London on their album tour last year and they can still really pull it out of the bag (if they're motivated). Plus a venue like the Olympia really suits them - moreso that the arenas that they are doing with Suede in the UK.

Would love to see them in Cork again but like the rest of ye, Dublin in a pain in the arse these days with kids & the dog to consider.
That opera house gig was brilliant. Saw them in The Point as well when supported by super furry animals. Got to Heuston Station around 2pm, went for "1" pint in the bar! Left Heuston at god knows what time, no accomodation sorted so stuffed the gearbag into a locker. got to the gig, pissed, didnt recognise the tune being played so went straight up to the bar. A while later could hear the manics belting out a design for life, headed down and got the last 2 songs! missed the whole shaggin thing.
no accomodation, off we went to Fibber Magees, my buddy in his demented state manged to find himself a girl. back to her place, they shared the bed, me on the floor with my hands over my ears.

Saw MSP at Indiependence a few years ago ( 2019 maybe?) and they were brilliant. Perfect size venue for them.

Went to Paul Simon in Dublin last week. We drove up and down same day, because of work, childcare and cost considerations. It was worth it for him, but it would want to be at that level of gig for me to be arsed with the hassle of it I think.

that was independence 2017 and if i remember correctly Nicky Wire missed the gig due to a family illness. Still put on a great show. Saw them previously at the day trip to Tipp in 97 and oxegen in maybe 2003ish
