LIVE: Budget 25: As it happens

It is all short-term planning for a single year and all at the mercy of politicians, ideology and the global economy.

There should be 5 - 10 plans costed and funded including for inflation that all parties have to agree to for critical items like public housing, water, health, utilities like electricity, sewage, roads and rail infrastructure etc. and all at the whim of some Minister playing politics.

They have kind of done a bit of this for buses and rail improvements but only because the E.U. demanded it a sthey wanted to know where their invesyment was going long-term.

All parties are simply plucking numbers out of the sky promising new builds- the workers are just not there and the planning system is not fit for purpose.

Zero long-term planning or long-term funding but here is a few €€€ this year now please vote for me.
Is it a case of FF.FG looking at the scenario of winning the next election, Making progress On housing in the next five years and continueing
the cycle in the hope SF will continue to lose momentum?

It is just politics holding the country back for short-term popularity.

Things like housing, health, children's mental health, scoliosis, transport, infrastructure etc are given funding year by year no matter where the real and urgent problems are and we are not lacking in cash just the poor focus on exactly where it goes.

No party will be able to deliver all the housing required in the timeframes anyway so take it off the Govt. and let the LDA and housing bodies etc have all the funds to do long-term planning and delivery.

If people do not even have a roof over their heads or the promise of one in say the next 24 months how can they even plan their life and the life of their kids etc.?

I see so many messages online pleading for a house locally, They have received notice to quit, Their kids are settled in the local school and sports clubs,
Having to uproot them is so unfair, Even moving 10 miles away can mean new school ,new club,
