Notice to Mariners – Towage of mv Matthew ⚓

A complex towage operation will take place on Thursday 16th July 2026 at approximately 1800 hrs. A large vessel, the mv Matthew (IMO 9228150), will be towed from Marino Point to sea with the support of four towing vessels.

The mv Matthew will have no propulsion and limited steerage, and will be assisted by:

- Main Tug: Foteini

- Supporting Tugs: DSG Alex, DSG Titan, Ocean Challenger

Mariners are asked to navigate with care when operating near the tow and its escorting tugs. Keep a clear lookout, proceed at a safe speed and give the tow a wide margin at all times. Avoid crossing ahead of the tow and remain outside the main navigation channel or in its margins for the duration of the operation.

Commercial shipping and the towage convoy will have priority in the main navigation channel throughout the manoeuvre.

All mariners should follow the Port of Cork Navigation Byelaws and the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, particularly Rule 9 (Narrow Channels) and Rule 18 (Responsibilities Between Vessels).

The tow will follow Passage Plan 12 from Marino Point to Pilot Station No. 2.

Please follow any directions issued by the Harbour Master or authorised Port of Cork personnel.
