Lindsay Clancy

The point being once again that men wouldnt be applauding and defending a man who killed his kids. At least not in this culture and time.
I agree, as I've said before.

I think it's also worth adding that there are other terrible crimes where some men (and women?) were prepared to applaud a man who committed them.

Maybe you can discuss them in the thread about them rather then engaging in whataboutery on this thread then?

I'd hope they wouldn't be applauding but if by "defending" you mean people drawing attention to the crisis in men's mental health then yeah that could well happen and in my opinion rightly so, as they are for mothers.

Ironically that series of articles by Sarah Harte the one where she says mental health shouldn't be considered where the father commits the crime she was admonishing Fr. Brian D'arcy for saying exactly that at the funeral of a man who had committed such an act.

So it's completely fair and accurate to say that it would be received differently if a man wrote it about a man, but not to say that it wouldn't be said.

Women were literally applauding Lindsay Clancy.

All of them?
Obviously not. But there are people who are picking sides and supporting her rather than, e g., simply drawing attention to issues around PPD. And based on my (resolutely unscientific and patchy) perusal of the coverage, I would say the majority of this group of people are women.

God that's mad isn't it? People holding daft opinions. And on the internet of all places.

I'd be very surprised if anything other than lunatics, of whatever gender, are applauding the killer of three children. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to understand the broader context but most of the people I meet in daily life (even the women, imagine) are capable of being as appalled by the actions of the woman in this trial as by men who commit these acts yet also understanding that sometimes people can be catastrophically, destructively mentally ill.
