I haven't really followed it, just saw something on the news one day and a fella who was watching it with us said "why couldn't she just have topped herself and left the kids?" Everyone's first reaction was, Exactly!! But I think that misses the point of serious mental illness. That is the response of someone who's NOT seriously mentally ill. It's logical. Kill yourself and leave the poor kids alone. Impossible to argue against it, but as I say, it misses the point. If you really are seriously ill in the head, you're not bloody thinking logically. The whole post-partum thing is almost certainly still under-researched. A sad case either way.
 
It’s a terrible sad story. What she did was horiffic but listening to an expert on Psychosis a couple of days ago, got me thinking can you convict her of murder and just land her in jail? I’m not so sure.

She should at the very least spend a fair bit of time in a mental institution though.

I just read the wiki page on her, the doctors tried loads of different drug combinations on her and it seems to me she did want to get better, a deep state of psychosis she was experiencing caused the killings in that she was hearing voices directing her to kill her children and then herself.

In Ireland I think this would be a case of "not guilty by reason of insanity".
 
It's a horrible case. There is no winning here for the family. Three kids murdered. A marriage finished. Husband getting it both barrels too in some quarters.

Whatever her mental state, and it looks pretty awful. I mean she looks demonic in some of the clips in court imho but there has to be serious repercussions for her actions either in terms of jail time or an institution of some sort. She can't be allowed walk the street again imo. Whatever the reasons she's murdered three kids.

I read somwhere that the husband was in a relationship with another woman within months of this happening. Not sure if it’s bs but I find it a bit odd if true.

People were also questioning why he left his clearly mentally ill wife alone with the kids.
