Varadkar at least tried to show some vision for the country. Enda is a lovely man who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting but he was a safe pair of hands in a crisis and was never going to be the man who changed the country. His legacy will be taking us out of the bailout and recession and that’s a good one but his legacy will also be not recognising the housing crisis early enough and a lack of investment in infrastructure.

That’s some remarkable take on it. Blaming Enda Kenny for not doing anything about a housing crisis that Varadkar over saw and actively made worse over his years in government.

Enda was there until 2017. The signs of the housing crisis were showing as early as 2013/14 yet there was a total inertia in his Governments regarding the crisis. Had the investment in housing been increased in 2014 rather than waiting until 2020 when housing for all was introduced then we may have been in a much stronger position now.

2017 was the first year that state spend on housing went above a billion. I’m not saying Leo was great but Enda and his Governments were very cautious.

Enda Kenny’s legacy in my opinion will be largely positive but he failed to recognise in 2013/14 when the economy started growing significantly that this needed to be matched by a significant increase in state investment in housing and infrastructure. Both he and Michael Noonan were too conservative with the public finances in those years.

Vision my bollocks lol. Oversaw Ireland hacing the second highest costs for goods and services in the EU, the highest costs for electricity in the EU all while inflation stripped the Irish public of their spending power by 25%.

Those are consequences of a lack of investment in infrastructure and housing. The economy grew faster than infrastructure and housing could keep up with. I’m not defending Leo but he was handed an overheating economy that was stretching the aging infrastructure and lack of housing.
