Lamine Yamal - Mini Messi

I was chatting about Yamal with my 11 year old.

I struggled to think player who was objectively better than him at 17 years of age - balancing out his raw ability, his effectiveness on the pitch and his achievements (2 x La Liga titles and the Euros with Spain - for club and country he's not along for the ride, he's actually a key player in both sides).

Does anyone think otherwise? Who (other than Walcott) tops him?

Pele was better at 17

I'm looking forward to seeing how this lad evolves in the next few years. Will he remain on the wing or will he adapt and change, become more Messi-like? I think he's a very different player to the Argentine tbh. Some goal last night again.

I've never seen anyone who was as good as him at 17*.

Messi got to 100 games for Barca at 21.

Ronaldo was very hit and miss before he became the player he became after the 2006 world cup.

Rooney was pretty good as an 18 year old in the 2004 Euros but this is a different level altogether.

Saying all that he'll be exposed, just like that Argentinian bluffer was.

*Not counting Theo, who was a different level altogether.
