La

Will have four days in LA next month. Was there once before with work did not get to see an awful lot of it but it just seemed like a massive urban sprawl.

So any tips must sees for me people?

Also will probably go elsewhere for a few days. Thinking San Diego or Palm Springs. People have any opinion on which is better to visit?

Will you have a Car while your in LA? It can be very handy but also a curse as you will get stuck in traffic but to be honest the two times ive been there recently i had a hire car and it was an amazing way to see the city.

You can spend hours up in the hollywood hills driving along mullholland drive. You have to go to griffith obseratory. Best view of the city and also a good view of the hollywood sign.

If your approaching LA from San Fran stop in Malibu or take a few de tours into the hills in malibu. Take topanga canyon blvd from malibu up to the hollywood hills to get onto mullholland drive.

Hollywood blvd and the sunset strip are interesting areas to drive around and you can actually take sunset blvd from hollywood all the way back down to Santa Monica and take some detours along the way to check out beverley hills, rodeo drive etc

If its more beaches your into then stay at either Santa Monica or Venice. I kinda preferred Venice as its a bit gritter and has a good bar scene although santa monica has some nice bars too..as well as the venice boardwalk and muscle beach make sure to check out the venice canals and marina del ray which are amazing

If your looking for somewhere close to LA for a few days laguna beach or newport beach are nice or head east to the likes of big bear lake of joshua tree national park

Ive been in LA 3 times and like alot of people my first visit there was only for a day or two and we didnt explore much and i left with the impression that it was a souless mass urban sprawl.

My two more recent trips have been really fun as i explored the city more with some locals in tow and id go back there every year for a week if i could

If you're hiring a car head to Huntington Beach, head south on the Pacific coast highway and take in Newport and Laguna beach.
I was in San Diego for my honeymoon in 2007, it was only alright IMO.
