LA Olympics 2028

I'd this on top of the govt carding?

Looks like it's a reward for making a final

Coscoran is 29, he'll be 32 by the Games.

He's on the 25k grant AFAIK

Good for him but you'd be better off giving lots more smaller grants to athletes who aren't sponsored yet.

Griggs would be a better bet than coscoran but he hasn't made a senior champs yet.

Or Anika Thompson or Oisin Joyce or Loads of others.

Yep, this is extra. So, a lot of the "A" listers are already funded

Agree with the above comments - funding was always a bit odd for athletics, it was only when you peaked at a championship that you got the reward, age never really a consideration. Griggs is a super talent, 13.05 and in hospital/out of action for the early part of the year, surely a 12.45 runner with the proper structure and support. No disrespect to Coscoran because he has put in a few solid years and too deserves support, but if I’m taking a punt on someone from Ireland on the men’s distance side (not considering McPhillips who is surprisingly omitted above) then Griggs would be top of the list for me too.

McPhillips is on an Ad Astra at UCD

Griggs has some sort of backing from Gateley legal and also from the Mary Peters Trust - he's not listed on the national carding scheme. He is also on a scolarsdhip at UUJ.

Is sharlene maudsley after moving to dubai?
No I’d say just on an ole holiday.

Be interesting to see what she could do if she takes it fully serious. This year started promisingly making the move to that training group but with the sudden death of her father, it was obviously very much disrupted.

Herself and Sophie B are very fortunate to have the top funding based on 2024 relay performances, remains to be seen if they can make the jump to be really competitive individually. A big ask given the times some are running this yr in particular.

If we're being honest, we know the answer above. Sophie B is way off the top times and unless Sharlene makes a decent little improvement, we won't be seeing much of her outside relays.
