[How bad boy]

Makerfield by-election tomorrow, if Burnham wins it, he's almost certain to become leader. Odd are massively in his favour, an aggregate scoring has him on an 85% chance of winning it. Which would be impressive, based on how Brexit-y the area is, and how strong the Reform (and Restore) vote is there.


However, he's not going to get a honeymoon period if polling is any guide.



Yep, he's done absolutely nothing yet and somehow his unfavourable rating has risen by 10% in a month.

That's significantly better than anyone else in Labour is doing though.

If labour are to have any chance of getting back into power in the near future they should get shot of Kier Starmer pronto. Andy Burnham is far from perfect, but Starmer is a Tory-in-the-wrong-party, like Alan Kelly is-a-FFGer-in-the-wrong-party. Seems to be a bit of a Labour thing.

He's not, this has actually been a moderately left wing labour government, but his public perception and communications are both shite.

As a minor example of left-wingedness, they're more than halfway through renationalising railways, steel is likely to be nationalised soon and have created a nationalised energy company. Thames Water may be renationalised soon too, if it goes, expect other water companies to follow.
Add in renters rights, workers rights, increased public sector spending, industrial strategy in areas like AI and IMO the argument that the government has been tory-lite just doesn't make sense to me.

But under Starmer you can't criticise Israel - little old ladies are being arrested for criticising Israel over various atrocities.

But under Starmer you can't criticise Israel - little old ladies are being arrested for criticising Israel over various atrocities.

The whole Corbyn thing shook Labour party badly. They're now over compensating by turning a blind eye to whatever Israel do. There is no doubt that some of what Corbyn and those close to him said and done veered very close or over the line of antisemitism rather than anti Israel, but Starmer has now gone full circle.

He is also weak on policy - the promise to limit tax rises before last election was madness. Tory party was toxic, they'd left the economy in tatters and was completely divided. Starmer could have still won with a landslide if he said "tough decisions on spending and tax" would have to be made but he was trying to be all things to all people!

But that's not strictly a right vs left thing, it's a foreign policy difference.

The little old ladies being arrested are for supporting Palestinian Action. Palestinian Action as an organisation were proscribed because they were attacking UK military facilities, about half a dozen and damaging a bunch of hardware, which is going to get you in some serious trouble.

I think it was wrong to proscribe them the way they did, but once that happened, and it was clear what the consequences were, people are shitstirring for supporting that particular group.

Nobody gave a shit about them until that happened, it was all about Palestinian Solidarity, who lead most of the pro-Palestinian activity in the UK. People don't get arrested for supporting Palestinian Solidarity...

Agreed, they should have just reversed the national insurance cut the Tories brought in only 3 months before the election, which cost £20 billion a year. They claimed it was affordable and that the economy was booming, which was all complete horseshit, there's very clear evidence they lied to the OBR as to the real state of finances

They've recognised Palestine as a country. They've cut off arms supplies, to the degree they can*. They've sanctioned a number of Israeli organisations.

It might not be going as far as you'd like but it's definitely not turning a blind eye.



*They have to supply components into the F35 programme from the UK. If they don't because some of those parts go to Israel, they risk losing access to the non UK made components. Which would result in the UK's F35 fleet becoming effectively useless.
