Think Streeting sees that if he triggers a leadership election, he'll lose to Rayner or Miliband with the party. Miliband doesn't want it. Not sure Rayner does either, she's popped up on a lot of media recently, she might give a shot at it but isn't going to stick the knife into Starmer.

Streeting has given his support to Burnham in the new byelection, if he gets into parliament, it looks like Burnham might just be crowned the new PM without even a member's vote.

Now they have to win the byelection, no mean feat when if you take the recent council elections as a starting point, Reform should wipe the floor with any candidate.

If he does win it, it'd be a good start for him.

He won't beat Rayner who was cleared of wrongdoing by HMRC. If it comes down to a vote by the membership, he'll lose.

I think Sadiq Khan actually has the strongest case for leadership, he's done an excellent job as London mayor. Shame he's highly unlikely to go for it.

Sadiq would stir up too much Racial Hathred.

Rayner is a good looking woman, she'll be destroyed by british media for wearing the wrong blouse.

Burnham will have a fight on his hands but having a potential pm in your constituency is im sure a bonus so that will prob sway voters back to Labour in that seat anyway.

I think Raynor would run if it does turn into a member's vote, and she'd have enough MPs supporting her to get on the ballot. If it came down to a run off between herself and Burnham, hard to know who would win, but if it's her vs Streeting, then the members would give her the gig any day of the week.
Basically, Streeting won't be PM unless something major changes.

If Burnham wins the by-'election, Streeting's leadership bid fails and he will then be looking for political patronage from Burnham, i.e. to stay in cabinet or to be promoted.

If Burnham loses the by-election then Streeting will have been a team player and Burnham followers might look favourably on him in the leadership contest.
