Kabin Kids go pure Kerazzzzzyyyyyyyyy

Another day full of memories for our Kabin Crew yesterday. Impromptu gig outside the Carlton hotel before leading the parade and then back to the Lord Mayors room in City Hall for refreshments . The response from the younger people in the crowd to the Crew was very special.

Amazing night in The Everyman last night . All the members of the Kabin Crew both young and old performing their own original music with the backing of the Irish National Orchestra . Special night . One we shall never forget. Kudos to all involved.
Spoke with one of the producers after the show and she was blown away with the professionalism of the kids. Took every direction given and nailed the full dress rehearsal on the second go .
Lots of talent in that metal box up in Knocka
Some of the members of the Kabin Crew just touched down in Estonia after a long day of travel via Dublin and Helsinki ahead of the 2025 YAMawards . They have been nominated for an award for the concert in The Everyman last year when they performed with the accompaniment of the Irish National Opera Orchestra. Fingers crossed for tomorrow .

Well lads, they only fucking went and won their award!!!!!
You think we can stop what they do in the Kabin?
I fucking doubt it

They just got their award on stage and someone very close to me (who's not Garry McCarthy) was on stage to collect. I'm in bits. Holy shit!!!! Is it too early to start drinking?

Brilliant stuff 👏

Standing ovations all round last Friday night at the Everyman Theatre as part of the Cork Film Festival, as our friends in the Kabin debuted their latest project, a documentary called Gealtra, which featured them trying to promote the Irish language with the help of well-known Irish Rapper Súil Abháin.

The documentary, which was directed by Brendan Canty who directed the fantastic film 'Christy" which received rave reviews throughout Europe during the Summer, featured 6 of the boys and girls composing their own Irish language tracks with the help of Súil Abháin and of course the very excellent Garry McCarthy and as a surprise for us in the audience , these new tracks were performed live after the documentary finished. The evening culminated with a brief Q & A hosted by Stevie G.

I know I'm very biased when posting about the Crew but to watch the documentary and see the gang working so hard to get what's in their heads across as Gaeilge and then to sit and watch them perform these polished, excellently produced songs was a joy and indeed a privilege.

Bhímid an-bhródúil.

Meas mór leo.

What amazes me is how consistent Kabin Crew are and that's down to Garry McCarthy aka GMC. They've been no flash in the pan and he has been plugging away at this for years and keeps his head down and let's the kids take the limelight. A really good fella who has created this himself and it has been an incredibly positive thing for that part of the Northside.

They have 700k monthly listeners on Spotify and The Spark has had 80 million streams! White rappers and Irish rappers can be cringe at times but there's something about these kids doing it that just makes the whole thing cute and enjoyable without the usual trying to come across as a hard man that you get from so many Irish rappers.

"I'm MC Tiny but the mission is big, I'm a star like Michelin, kid"

Love it.

I know ye are probably sick shite of hearing from me here but...

So, we were back at the Everyman last night. CIFF Awards were presented before last night's screening of Song Sung Blue and the Kabin folks picked up the award for Best New Irish Feature for their excellent documentary Gealtra.
An Taoiseach Micheál Martin did the honours and the kind words from director Brendan Canty were the icing on the cake for us parents . The 6 members of the crew who featured in the documentary were all buzzing last night. Another piece of crystal to be proudly displayed in those magic containers outside Terence McSweeney school. Good times!
