Junior A Hurling Championship 2023

East Cork Results
St. Itas 5-12 Carrogtwohill 2-9
Killeagh 2-17 Bride Rovers 1-17

Semi finals will now be Cobh vs St. Itas and Carrignavar vs Killeagh

Midleton beat Sars 2-20 to 2-18 in the relegation play off. Big surprise Sars getting relegated as they have always been very competitive
Have the fixtures for this come out, Cobh v Itas will be a big one for the Cork championship!

I don't know why there's no relegation but infairness to the teams here a lot of them know when to swallow their pride and drop down voluntarily, in the past few years Ballyclough, Castletownroche, Doneraile and Fermoy have all dropped out of junior a by their own accord. I believe Buttevant plan on doing the same themselves next year.
I think Araglin will be the lowest side ability wise next year and after them there really isn't much between all the teams.

Dont know. Its up to the clubs themselves if they want to drop to junior b. A few clubs in JAHC are only just about hanging on atm. Fermoy, Kilworth, Doneraile and Castletown for example regraded themselves over last 5/6 years. Grange did likewise in JAFC
Didn't see your message until I posted mine, perfectly summed up though

Avondhu must be the only division with no relegation from Junior a in hurling or football
There hasn't been relegation play-offs in the Avondhu Junior championship since around 2013. Since then, a lot of Avondhu clubs got promoted to Intermediate so there were less Junior clubs, so they may have thought it would be better to scrap relegation to protect the number of clubs in their championships.

In recent years, some teams underperforming at Junior A, opted down to Junior B voluntarily i.e. Ballyclough, Doneraile and Castletownroche.

I personally think they should reintroduce relegation and recreate the Foxy Leary Cup - North Cork Junior B hurling competition, a competitive competition one time and always a curtain raiser to the Junior A final. There's definitely 3 or 4 Junior A teams in Avondhu that would be better off down Junior B, with a genuine chance of winning the competition. Promotion to Junior A could be gained by either winning the county direct or else winning the Foxy Leary Cup and earn a play-off against the "relegated team".

I think there's talks of re-introducing it. I wouldn't say anything concrete though from what I hear.

There's already 2 Junior B comps in the division though, one for second teams and one for 1st teams
