The county Junior B seems to be extremely competitive this year. The team that wins it out would be a solid Junior A side.

That’s generally how a healthy club championship setup should work. Relegation and promotion in equal measure with teams on the wane finding their level while teams on the rise also find a better level.

The structure will take a while to figure itself out yet but it’s on the way.

The Avondhu Junior A Championship started over the weekend. There is 11 teams in 3 groups.

Group 1: They have put the 4 second teams together because it started before Intermediate/Senior. So you have Mallow, Fermoy, Clyda and Kilshannig.
Results so far: Kilshannig 1-7 v Clyda 0-9. & Mallow 0-16 v Fermoy 1-13.
Tight games and unpredictable group.

Group 2: Buttevant, Ballyclough, Ballyhooly and Killavullen. No games played yet. Buttevant should go through with other place up for grabs.

Group 3: Charleville, Kilworth, Liscarroll/Churchtown. No games played yet. Charleville & Kilworth should progress here.

Carbery championship gets underway on Saturday 16 July. 4 groups of 4 teams. 2 sets of fixtures played back to back and the final round of fixtures in mid-August. The top 2 teams in each group advance to the quarter-finals.
Group 1: Tadhg MacCarthaigh, Argideen Rangers, Bandon, Barryroe
Group 2: St James, St Marys, St Colums, Castlehaven
Group 3: Kilmacabea, Ballinascarthy, Kilbrittain, Clonakilty
Group 4: Carbery Rangers, Newcestown, Muintir Bhaire, Randal Og

Reigning Avondhu champions Kilworth got a bad clipping tonight in Ballyhea by Charleville.on a scoreline of 5-11 to 8 points. Charleville top the group after beating Liscarroll/Churchtown at the weekend 15 points to 5. Charleville may take some stopping this year in Avondhu. They'd a great game against Kilmacabea in the championship 2 years ago and if they get put out the hurling early they'll be tough to beat. This was Kilworths first competitive game all year. They conceded all their league games, something they used to do going back a few years but that was because of the incentives of winning the leagues every other year. All to play for this Saturday in Doneraile between Kilworth and LC Gaels. They met in the same venue in the group stage last year with Kilworth winning 5-17 to 8 points. Kilworth can't afford to get complacent if they want to have any hope of regaining their crown.
