I'm not certain thats the best solution but im not opposed to trying it either. A first round match between Urhan and Adrigole is a very different proposition in terms of travel than Urhan and Mallow. You'd do it for a final or semi but earlier rounds could see fewer people attend than would now.

Rather than a fully open one, you could try a middle ground. Maybe for the first round or two group (or amalgamate) the divisions like the league suggestion and then once you've had a few local games send the winners forward to the open draw. The remaining teams would have abit of momentum behind them so should be a better incentive for people to travel and you still get a very decently varied pot of teams to play in the middle and late rounds.

The proposal for 2023 regional leagues is:
Hurling:
Imokilly on it's own
Avondhu & Duhallow
Carbery & Muskerry
Seandun & Carrigdhoun

Football:
Avondhu & Duhallow
Carbery & Beara
Miskerry & Carrigdhoun
Seandun & Imokilly
No they were the original, it was changed since based on number of teams in each division and to make the numbers similar in each grouping

Its in hurling
Imokilly on their own
Muskerry - seandun
Avondhu - Duhallow
Carrigdhoun - Carbery

Football:
Imokilly - carrigdhoun
Muskerry - seandun
Duhallow - Avondhu
Carbery - Beara

Last round of group fixtures in Muskerry this weekend and this is how we're looking:

Group 1: 1st Kilmurry- 4pts, 2nd Clondrohid - 2pts, 3rd Kilmichael - 1pt, 4th Dripsey - 1pt
Fixtures: Kilmurry Vs Dripsey, Kilmichael Vs Clondrohid.

Don't expect current standings to change. Kilmurry will comfortably beat Dripsey, there will be a good scrap between Clondrohid and Kilmichael for second place. PK came on as a sub for hurlers last week so he could be a gamechanger but still see Clondrohid coming out on top.

Group 2: 1st Canovee - 4pts, 2nd Eire Og - 2pts, 3rd - Cill Na Martra - 0pts
Final standings as final fixture was Canovee Vs CNM this weekend but website says CNM have conceded which is disappointing. Canovee will be lacking championship gametime going into a QF

Group 3: 1st Donoughmore - 2pts, 2nd Grenagh - 2pts, 3rd Ballincollig- 0pts
Fixture: Dmore Vs Collig

Interesting group if there's a Collig win we could be looking at a 3 way tie which will come down to scoring difference. Currently Dmore are on +5 score difference, Grenagh -2 and Collig -3. All up for grabs in last game but based off Dmore already beating Grenagh and Grenagh beating Collig one would expect Dmore to come out on top Vs Collig. But there lies the uncertainty of playing second teams, don't know what team Collig could put out. One would imagine Collig have bigger fish to fry when their seniors are playing Douglas in a must win game Sunday. Would imagine Dmore will be going all out to win to avoid Kilmurry & Canovee in a QF.

Group 4: 1st Inniscarra - 2pts, 2nd Aghinagh - 2pts, 3rd Beal Atha - 0pt
Fixture: Scarra Vs Beal Atha

This group could have same outcome as above but Beal Atha lost to Aghinagh by 13 pts so very unlikely they'll be beating Scarra. Scarra comfortable winners and will top group, seem to be motoring away nicely with cork hurler SOD influential in their forward line, not many teams will fancy playing them in QF

Would there be much of a crossover between Cloughduv and Canovee/Kilmurry these days??
Kilmurry have very little crossover, no dual player starting maybe a few subs. Canovee have a big crossover, a lot of dual players. Might give Kilmurry the upper hand when it comes down to closing stages of championship

I'm hearing that Canovee and Kilmurry are advising their dual players to only play hurling if they are making the Cloughduv first team. Their second team are considerably weakened as a result.

Two Imokilly Quarter Finals this weekend.

Cloyne Vs Youghal tonight, would expect Youghal to win and Bride Rovers Vs Cobh then on Sunday a repeat of last years final, would expect Cobh to get revenge from last year

Castlemartyr and Carrignafar already in Semi finals

Is that youghal's first team? Jesus werent they prem intermediate in football not so long ago?

Youghal, Midleton, Cobh... the 3 main towns of east cork and not a footballer amongst them. Regardless of interest in east cork football. Surely a few lads play soccer and GAA and could kick a ball enough for them to get out of Junior A with the pick they have.
