Lyre take on Kanturk second team in the only game in Duhallow this weekend.

Group 1: Cullen, Castlemagner, Kiskeam.
Group 2: Lyre, Newmarket, Kanturk, Knocknagree.

Cullen 0-16 Castlemagner 1-12.
Kiskeam withdrew resulting in Castlemagner being in semi final after a loss.

Lyre 4-14 Newmarket 1-7
Kanturk 1-12 Knocknagree 1-9.
Newmarket withdrew from competition after playing first round game.
Very poor state of affairs over in Duhallow. 7 teams in the championship to begin with and 2 withdrawing isn't good for anyone

They'd be as well to disband the division. Being 100% serious. It's just a complete mess there. One guy running the whole show too and has been for years.

Might be better off amalgamating Avondhu and Duhallow in championship and have multiple grades Junior A, B, C and junior B2, There's a proposal for the leagues to join in 2023 so it might work over the course of a few years. League recommendations attached Screenshot_20220802-132731_Gallery.jpg

They look to be a step in the right direction. Will there be amalgamated leagues in Muskerry too? If so who are they joining up with??

Can't see it happening Fandango. Divisions not happy with it and have already put in a counter proposal to the County board I believe. I mean, can anyone reall see Araglen and Rockchapel going across to play each other on a Wednesday night or Ballygiblin and Meelin travelling? Just won't happen and you'll just end up having walkovers.

Duhallow want it to go ahead for obvious reasons but the Avondhu/Imokilly football league was a bit of a farce in by gone days

The proposal for 2023 regional leagues is:
Hurling:
Imokilly on it's own
Avondhu & Duhallow
Carbery & Muskerry
Seandun & Carrigdhoun

Football:
Avondhu & Duhallow
Carbery & Beara
Miskerry & Carrigdhoun
Seandun & Imokilly

Said it over in the junior hurling thread recently, think the main and realistic way forward is an open county championship as the divisions are too varied and lopsided (this came up particularly in reference to Duhallow, who are obviously a bit stuck given the strong football teams have moved beyond this level and the hurling clubs aren’t as plentiful in the division). Stick the top 16/32 or so into a county wide Junior A championship, same with B, etc., then promote/relegate a few each year in those lower levels, let the divisions run off their own championships/leagues or whatever they wish earlier in the season whilst intercounty is on. Far from perfect, and obviously divisions would go against it for the most part, but think it’d be much better for everyone in the long run.

Duhallow championship is now basically a junior b competition. The teams left are in no man’s land they really need to amalgamate with Avondhu

County wide Junior championships are the way to go alright, there was talk about 2 or 3 years ago of it happening but noting yet. Every other championship is run off county wide and are a success so why not the junior A is the big question.

Call them Junior 1, Junior 2, Junior 3 etc... Could definitely work
